Deja Vu'

Last Saturday, about 7 am.  The vendors are ready and no early morning rain keeps a dedicated market shopper away.   "Feels like it's my private market in the rain," says one shopper, "There's no rush for coffee and everybody has time to talk."

"Without at least some rain in any given day, or at least a cloud or two on the horizon, I feel overwhelmed by the information of sunlight and yearn for the vital, muffling gift of falling water."
— Douglas Coupland

A few minutes later and....let the day begin, again:
There is shopping to do

Weather Ambiguity

Among famous traitors of history one might mention the weather.
Ilka Chase   We began the market with weather like this.....

A change in the weather is sufficient to recreate the world and ourselves.
Marcel Proust  .....and suddenly, a summer rain; a different day.

But vendors and shoppers are sturdy folk and after some sheltering under umbrellas and tents.....

We finish the market like this.....

Despite the fickle weather, there are sunflowers waiting for the final customer of the day.

Perhaps imagination is only intelligence having fun.  ~George Scialabra

In 24 hours, this hibiscus will become.....

...okuru ( in Ethiopian),  kingombo (Bantu), guigambo (Portuguese), okree (my grandmother).  The list of nutritional benefits from okra gets lengthy and boring to read, so let's sum up :  antinflammatory, diuretic, and a tendency to gently restore balance to a disturbed gastro-intestinal system.  Mostly, it's delicious quickly stir-fried and dressed with lemon or vinegar.  Think of it as...silky.

The August birth flower is the gladiolus which means sincerity and symbolizes strength of character. Love at first sight is what the hidden message of this flower was during the Victorian era.

Blessings

“There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.” Mahatma Gandhi

"True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made." Franklin D. Roseveldt

It has been well said that a hungry man is more interested in four sandwiches than four freedoms." Henry Cabot Lodge
